Moseley for Ukraine, in partnership with Cycling UK and The Big Bike Revival, has successfully delivered a cycling project for the Ukrainian community in Birmingham!

The project launched on 4 June 2026 and brought together 13 participants.

What did participants gain?

As part of the project, participants received free bicycles, helmets, high-visibility vests and basic bicycle maintenance kits. Throughout the programme, they improved their cycling skills, gained confidence riding on Birmingham's roads and learned how to use bicycles for everyday journeys, including travelling to work, education and leisure activities.

The programme included:

  • Practical group cycling sessions.

  • Planning safe cycling routes around Birmingham.

  • Learning essential bicycle maintenance and basic repair skills.

  • Socialising with other participants, making new friends and practising English.

What did our participants say?

Feedback from participants was very positive. They particularly appreciated:

"Practical cycling sessions and socialising with other participants", "Interesting routes and longer bike rides",

"Route planning and explanations of road safety rules",

"Support in learning new skills, English and the friendly atmosphere."

Participants also praised the friendliness, knowledge and support of the volunteers and instructors.

This project was much more than just learning to ride a bike!

It helped participants develop practical skills, build confidence, elevate their English, become more physically active and make new social connections.

We hope that cycling will become a convenient, affordable and environmentally friendly way for participants to travel around Birmingham, while regular bike rides will continue to support their physical health and mental wellbeing.

A huge thank you to our partners, Cycling UK and The Big Bike Revival, as well as all the instructors, volunteers and participants for their support, enthusiasm and for making this project such a positive experience!
