When the full-scale war broke out in Ukraine, Inna was forced to leave her homeland to ensure the safety of her daughters. Through a sponsorship programme, she and her daughters moved to England, leaving behind a successful career as a gastroenterologist and the life they had known. However, Inna sees new opportunities in every challenge, and her story is one of strength, perseverance, and inspiration.
A New Beginning in England
Adapting to a new country is always a challenge, especially when starting from scratch. Inna decided to validate her medical qualifications in England, but for this, she needed to improve her professional English. She is actively working towards returning to her beloved profession.
At the same time, the family’s life took on new meaning thanks to the eldest daughter’s passion for baking. From a young age, she has loved creating culinary masterpieces, and Inna, inspired by her daughter’s talent, decided to support this passion. This led to the idea of starting a family-run bakery business.
The Path to the Dream Business
To realise her vision, Inna joined the Business Support Programme from Moseley for Ukraine and the Wilton Lodge Association, created with the support of Birmingham City Council. Participation in the programme is helping Inna learn about the specifics of running a business in England: from registration to promoting products.
Inna has already made significant progress on her journey:
She received a food hygiene certificate, allowing her to bake professionally.
She has identified her target audience and is studying the market.
She has begun promoting her products.
Each week brings Inna new knowledge and skills, bringing her closer to the dream.
First Successes
Last week, Inna presented her business to participants in the Business Programme. All the participants had the chance to taste her incredibly delicious baked products: the beloved Ukrainian Kyiv cake, airy marshmallows, and aromatic gingerbread biscuits. This was the first, but very important step towards building a recognisable brand.
Faith in the Future
Inna and her daughter move forward with confidence and optimism. Their story is a reminder that challenges can be overcome if you believe in yourself and your dreams. We are confident that their bakery business will soon be a success, bringing joy and satisfaction to people in England.
